What Does God Want From You?

Updated: May 7, 2021

Assuming you believe in God, an intriguing question arises: why would God bother to create the universe and all that is in it? And this includes YOU, unless you believe, like some New Agers do, that you created yourself.

Why does God create? Obviously, He has some purpose in mind, which for us, is difficult to perceive. Consequently, we get caught up in looking for some purpose for our lives—an earthly purpose for most.

When the Lord created the earth, in Genesis 1:31 He says, “God saw all that He had made, and behold, it was very good.” The word “good” is the Hebrew word “tob,” which the Strong’s concordance translates as pleasant, agreeable, good.

When the Holy Spirit descended on Jesus Christ in Matthew 3:17, God says, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” Many parents have children that they are NOT pleased with, but Jesus obviously pleased His Father with His obedience and dedication to His agenda.

These two events indicate that God is interested in what gives Him pleasure. He creates for

His pleasure and He gets pleasure when our essence aligns with His.

We are made in His image, and we enjoy doing things that gives us pleasure as well, don’t we? Unfortunately, in our fallen state we can get carried away with the obsession with our version of delight, and consequently, we usually end up suffering some level of tribulation when we get caught up with these infatuations.

So, what does God want in regard to you? Why would He send His Son to take on the excruciating pain of being nailed to a cross and take onto Himself all the blasphemous sin a human being can conjure up?

Why would He do that?

Why would He sacrifice Himself as a substitute for your sins? And then, if you truly repent, recognize this truth with all of your heart and acknowledge who He is, He seals you to Him by giving you a part of Himself—His Holy Spirit.

This makes it very clear that God wants you! He created you for His pleasure and this temporary existence here on this warped disturbing planet is merely a stepping-stone up to sharing yourself with Him in His domain—and that is forever!

So, that is what God wants. He wants YOU to become the person He actually designed you to be. And the only way to become that person is by surrendering to His Spirit and growing into His agenda. Remember, God’s ways are not our ways.

The only way to truly be filled with the joy that His Spirit brings, and to experience authentic purpose is to allow His Spirit to transform us.

That is what God wants. Are you on board? I sure hope so...

Warmly,

John Nieminen
